LinkedIn Live Evolves
Welcome to a new episode and this week I’m chatting with Anya Razina from Restream.io about LinkedIn Live.
I have previously been very skeptical about the benefits of LinkedIn Live but the introduction of allowing online events as a feature to LinkedIn Events could be a game-changer for live streaming on LinkedIn.
My issue with Live has always been the immediacy of it. You suddenly get a notification in the middle of the day to watch a 10-30 minute video…who has the time for that?
Now you can schedule and notify via LinkedIn events and that makes live streaming more of a possibility. I’m not totally convinced, I still think they are too long and the replay version definitely doesn’t work as a video post but in theory, if you can schedule a live event in your diary and can be notified then I guess it’s like committing to attend a conference or webinar.
I still don’t have access to Live so I can’t test it properly but another issue I have is that the comments and reactions during the Live session do not spread organically ie the followers of those commenting will not see them in their feed.
This means that it has limitations as a visibility tool but video is great for building your personal brand and live video allows that opportunity for your audience to engage with you directly and that has to be good for building relationships.
LinkedIn claim they are treated the same as any other post but I personally have never seen anything in my feed. Please let me know if you have and send me a screenshot.
I think Anya did a great job of explaining exactly how the Live streaming process works on LinkedIn using Restream.

Feedback from last week
SSI has not disappeared after all! Apparently it was just a glitch that made it disappear for a day (the day I recorded the podcast!).
I’m still suspicious that it might disappear because when it did on that day, it wasn’t an error page you were directed to, it was an ‘upgrade to premium’ page.
For now, it is still available at LinkedIn.com/sales/ssi
That’s all for this week.
I’m taking next week off so I will be catch up with you all again in June. In the meantime, take care.
