Post of the week special (x4)

Jun 1, 2019 | company pages, New Features, News, Posts (Status updates), Rumours, Sales Navigator, social selling, Video |

Hello everyone,

This is an unusual episode in that it’s shorter than normal due to the fact I’m leaving for sunny Madrid today to attend the Champions league final frivolities….I nearly type celebrations then…but that would be tempting fate!

I nearly skipped a week but I just had so many good posts to talk about……thank you all so much for nominating them, the quality seems to be increasing!

So the main thrust of this episode is to talk through four brilliant posts that grabbed our attention this week but first….

Interesting Stuff I Saw This Week.

LinkedIn buys digital identity management firm Drawbridge

LinkedIn’s announcement about Drawbridge

New on LinkedIn

I saw this post this week suggesting that LinkedIn are going to allow us to see a company’s ads for the last 6 months, it doesn’t appear to be out yet but it’s a solid rumour from good sources.

We will have to wait to see what it actually looks like but it’s an interesting development

Company Page Improvements

LinkedIn are trying hard to make company pages more effective, I’m not sure it’s going to make much of a difference but they are rolling out at least two new features to help grow followers;

When you invite someone to connect, you are encouraged to follow their company page (thanks to Anna Mcafee for this one)

I also received this message from Eric

I also don’t have this facility on any of my company pages yet, here is the screenshot Eric refers to;

This is rather weird, just an invitation with no explanation or personalisation….personally I would just ignore it!

New Sales Navigator Design.

I still don’t have this change in my account but Alexander Low does and he has put together this useful video to demonstrate the changes

Update on Mentoring

Thanks to Sandra Clark for letting us know that the mentoring feature can only be updated from the mobile app….crazy I know! I don’t think it really helps with Lynnaire’s question in last weeks show but it certainly answers my question about how to edit it.

Here’s what it looks like on the app (accessed via that section in your profile);

Four Great Posts

I just had to show you these posts, they are all great in different ways……actually to be fair the two from Shay are good for similar reasons but I wanted you to see both.

The following four posts are not in any particular order.

The first is from Ian Sohn. He is not someone who typically gets great engagement on his posts although it’s not unusual for him to gain 10-15 comments, this one really hit the jackpot!

Here’s why;

  • Unique and intriguing first line
  • First 5 lines has you thinking ‘where is he going with this?’ so you have to click on ‘see more’
  • It’s a highly relevant topic for LinkedIn…HR, people management etc
  • It’s authentic and something that clearly matters a lot to him
  • It’s not especially engaging (hence more likes than comments) but still does exceptionally well due to the above points

Here’s the second. I love most of Shay’s videos but this one really had me laughing out loud. It’s a great mickey take of Gary Vee, the only thing she is missing is the beanie hat!

To be fair, Gary saw the funny side and bothered to respond.

  • As always Shays video starts with a clear headline in the video itself
  • The text headline is also effective
  • Gary Vee is always going to be a popular subject and many will be able to relate to her impressions of him.

The third video is another from Shay, this one is more recent and hasn’t done as well (yet). I include it because, as seasoned LinkedIn observers, I’m sure you will be able to relate to many of her frustrations.

It’s a great example that you can make a negative point in a humourous way and by doing so you are much more likely to get the attention of those you want…..as proof, Jeff Weiner actually commented on this post and tagged several key people at LinkedIn to bring it to their attention.

This is probably my favourite of the four. Maria only has 834 followers and her posts rarely attract much attention but this one has gone viral…why?…..just read it!

  • An authentic, personal story
  • Heartwarming
  • Funny
  • It includes an important message that resonates with most of us.

That’s all folks…..I hope you enjoyed that episode. By the time you listen or read this I will either be a very happy fan….or deeply upset!….wish me luck!

Up the Reds… YNWA!
