Episode 116. Cold Calling Isn’t Dead….But It Should Be!
Welcome to a new episode of LinkedInformed, I hope you like the new website. Please drop me a message if you have any suggestions to make it better.
Changes to LinkedIn
You now can’t see a speech bubble in an invitation card from a blank invitation (see below).
The problem this creates is that the speech bubble provides a link to be able to reply before accepting an invitation. The ironic thing is that the most likely time you would want to do that is when you receive a blank invite!
Customized message invites still show the speech bubble.
The second is not a change so much but involves notifications.
If you want to prevent notification from resetting to the start everytime you click on one then you can avoid this by right clicking the notification and opening it in a new tab.
These are both cases of very poor design by LinkedIn.
How big should your network be?
It’s that old chestnut again!
Here is the excellent article I referred to. My advice is that you should connect widely but keep it relevant and always connect after you have introduced yourself (on or offline)
The following piece is very well written but flawed in my opinion.
Cold calling is outdated because we know better than to be so selfish in sales these days!

Prospective customers don’t enjoy receiving cold calls – so why do it?
Restricted accounts
The recent security reports and subsequent password resets by LinkedIn have led to a number of my fake accounts (used for testing) to be suspended.
Is this an indication that LinkedIn are using the opportunity to ‘clean up’ dormant accounts?

Question:
“Recently, I have noticed my profile views are not good as they used to be. My target keywords are “Engineering Manager” and “Engineering Director”. In the past when I search for those phrases my profile was always number one listed. Lately is buried deep down in the list.

It can be difficult to get noticed in iTunes and one thing that can really make a difference is reviews. If you enjoy the show please take a minute to write an honest review in iTunes, it would be most appreciated.
If you are not sure how to write an iTunes review I have made a short video demonstrating how this is done.
