Episode 113. The Danger of Legal Precedent

May 13, 2016 | Uncategorized |

How would you feel if when you joined a company they asked you to changed the name of your LinkedIn profile from your name to the company name and when you left that company, you are then required to close that account down? This week I talk with Greg Cooper about an article from a top law firm that suggests the above as best practice!

  • The article we both read this week was written by Fiona Bolton.

  • The article “LinkedIn: a trojan horse? “ is all about LinkedIn and the Law, and what company should be doing to protect themselves from nasty employees who steal away information.
  • High Court grants injunction against former staff using individual LinkedIn profiles

Read the full ‘precedent’ cases:

Hays Specialist Recruitment (Holdings) Ltd v Mark Ions

Whitmar Publications Ltd v Gamage and others

What do you think about this?

Have you ever had a company ask you to close your LinkedIn account or hand over your connections?

How does your company protect itself against the actions of employees using LinkedIn to assist in starting a competitive company?

Please leave a voicemail or drop me a line at mark@linkedinformed.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you so much for listening. I value your support and interest.

It can be difficult to get noticed in iTunes and one thing that can really make a difference is reviews. If you enjoy the show please take a minute to write an honest review in iTunes, it would be most appreciated.

If you are not sure how to write an iTunes review I have made a short video demonstrating how this is done.
